How to wash your car at home without streaks or scratches
≈ 60 min
Short answer
Wash in the shade in three stages. Stage one is touchless: apply PreWash foam to the dry car, wait a few minutes and rinse — it removes most of the dirt and grit without contact. Stage two is the hand wash: CherryBomb shampoo in a bucket, a mitt for the upper body and a separate sponge for the sills. Stage three is protection: spray FastQuartz onto the clean wet car and rinse it straight off. Then dry the car with microfiber — streaks appear when water dries on its own.

Step by step
Pick a spot
Shade or an overcast day: on hot paint, foam, shampoo and water dry into spots.
Start with the wheels
Clean the wheels first and with separate brushes, so brake dust and grime don't end up on your body mitt.
How to clean car wheels and tires →Knock off heavy mud if there is any
Only hose the car down if there are lumps of mud — in the arches, on the sills, after off-road driving. If the car is just dusty, go straight to the foam: it works better on a dry surface and isn't diluted.
Stage one — touchless foam
Dilute PreWash as shown on the label and apply it as foam with a foam sprayer or a pressure washer foam lance. Apply from the bottom up, leave for 2–4 minutes without letting it dry, then rinse from the top down. The foam dissolves road film and carries away the grit that would otherwise scratch the paint under the mitt.
Stage two — hand wash
Mix CherryBomb shampoo in a bucket. Wash the upper body — roof, glass, bonnet, doors down to the trim — with the soft Chenille mitt in straight lines from the top down. Wash the sills and the lower doors and bumpers with a separate Wash Sponge: that's where the most abrasive dirt is, and the mitt for the upper body shouldn't touch it.
Rinse
Rinse off all shampoo from the top down, especially from gaps and around mirrors. Don't dry the car — the next stage goes on wet paint.
Stage three — FastQuartz protection
Spray undiluted FastQuartz onto the clean wet car — 50–100 ml covers the whole car, including glass and plastic. Rinse it off straight away with pressurised water before it can dry. The silica-based coating gives a strong water-repellent effect and gloss: water beads off, drying is quicker and the car stays clean longer.
Dry
Lay a Super Dry towel on the panel and pull it across — no rubbing or pressure. Clean the glass with GlassCleaner.
Common mistakes
- Washing in direct sun or on hot paint
- Going straight in with a mitt without the touchless stage — grit scratches the paint
- Washing the sills with the same mitt as the roof
- Letting foam, FastQuartz or water dry on the paint
- Applying FastQuartz to a car that isn't fully clean or is hot
- Dish soap instead of car shampoo — dries out plastic and strips protection
Questions and answers
Should I wet the car before applying foam?
Only if there are lumps of mud. A dusty car is better foamed dry: water dilutes the foam and it dissolves dirt less effectively.
Why the third stage with FastQuartz?
It protects the paint after washing: water and dirt cling less, the car stays clean longer and the next wash is quicker. FastQuartz takes a couple of minutes on the wet car, with no polishing needed.
Can I wash my car with dish soap?
Better not: it's made for grease, dries out rubber and plastic and strips wax and coatings. A pH-neutral car shampoo is safe for paint.
How often should I wash my car?
Every 1–2 weeks in the city, more often in winter because of road salt. Remove bird droppings and tree sap right away.
What should I dry my car with to avoid streaks?
A large twisted-loop microfiber towel such as Super Dry Towel — it picks up the water in one pass.
